-22,7°C
-22.7°C is an immersive experience set within the polar circle, inspired by the adventure of electronic music producer Molécule.
The viewer embarks on a creative journey in extreme conditions, exploring the Arctic—a hostile world shaped by mystical sounds and vibrations.
The cracking of glaciers, the breath of the ice floes, the silence of the polar night… In 2017, Molécule isolated himself for five weeks in Tiniteqilaaq, a remote village in Greenland. There, he recorded the raw sounds of the Arctic to compose his album -22.7°C.
This musical expedition later gave rise to a VR experience that immerses the user in a deeply sensory and introspective journey through polar lands.
The creative collaboration with filmmaker Jan Kounen was decisive in shaping the visual language of the project, bringing a cinematic precision that enriched the virtual reality storytelling.
In April 2018, Kounen’s director of photography, Hugues Espinasse, led a three-person crew specializing in extreme cold filming. Deep in Greenland, guided by Danish explorer Rasmus Poulsen, they captured breathtaking footage of the Arctic using 360° cameras. Over the course of eight days, the team faced harsh elements, traveled by dogsled, and left the camera supervisor with a painful reminder of the experience: a frostbitten toe.
The raw beauty and harshness of the Arctic landscapes contrast with Molécule’s inner world—his personal, introspective journey. These “inner worlds,” imagined as virtual environments, were designed in 3D by Jan Kounen and Amaury La Burthe.
With an original soundtrack by Molécule, the two worlds merge seamlessly, plunging the viewer into the heart of the creative process.
This hybrid project brings together the best of immersive technology, cinema, and experimental sound and music.
